How to Delete Pages from a PDF for Free (Mobile & PC)

Remove blank or unwanted pages from a PDF for free, on mobile or PC, without Acrobat. Type page numbers or pick them visually. No upload.

· 4 min read

To delete pages from a PDF for free, open delete PDF pages, choose your file, type the pages to remove (for example 2, 5-7), and press Remove pages. Download the new PDF and the rest of the pages are kept in their original order. If you would rather see the pages before deciding, use organize PDF, which shows a thumbnail of every page with a remove button. Both work on mobile and PC, with no Acrobat, no sign-up and no upload.

Common reasons to delete pages: blank backs from double-sided scanning, an instructions page you do not need to submit, a duplicate scan, or a page with personal details you should not share.

How to delete PDF pages for free, step by step

  1. Open delete PDF pages.
  2. Choose your PDF. The page count and file size appear once it opens.
  3. Type the pages to remove in the box:
    • 3 removes page 3
    • 2, 9 removes pages 2 and 9
    • 4-8 removes pages 4 to 8 (pages in between)
    • 10- removes page 10 and everything after it
  4. Press Remove pages. The note under the result tells you how many pages are left.
  5. Download the file, which ends in -edited.pdf.

Pages that remain are copied exactly, so text and quality do not change. The tool will not let you remove every page; at least one must stay.

Delete pages visually with thumbnails

If you are not sure which page number is which, organize PDF is easier:

  1. Choose the PDF and wait for the thumbnails to load.
  2. Tap ✕ under any page you want gone.
  3. While you are there, use ← and → to reorder pages, or ⟳ to rotate a sideways scan.
  4. Press Save PDF.

This is the best way to clean up a messy scan in one pass. Our guide on arranging PDF pages in order has more on reordering.

Remove blank pages from a scanned PDF

Scanners set to double-sided mode often add a blank page after every printed page. To clean these out:

  • If the blanks follow a pattern (every second page is blank), type them in delete PDF pages, for example 2, 4, 6, 8, 10.
  • If they are scattered, open the file in organize PDF, spot the empty thumbnails, and remove them with ✕.

Our tool does not detect blank pages automatically, so a quick look at the thumbnails is the reliable way. A page that looks blank can also have a faint stamp or note on it, so zoom in if unsure.

Delete pages in mobile

Everything works in your phone's browser.

  • Android: open the tool in Chrome, tap Choose a PDF, pick the file from Downloads, and the edited copy is saved back to Downloads.
  • iPhone: open the tool in Safari, choose the file from the Files app, and the edited copy goes to Files, in the Downloads folder by default.

If the PDF came through WhatsApp or email, save it to Files or Downloads first so it is easy to find. On a small screen, organize PDF's thumbnails are handy because you do not have to scroll through the whole document to find page numbers.

Delete PDF pages without Acrobat

Deleting pages in Adobe Acrobat uses its Organize Pages tools, which are part of the paid versions, not the free Reader. You have free alternatives:

  • Browser tools: the steps above, on any device.
  • Mac (Preview): open the PDF, choose View > Thumbnails, select the page in the sidebar, and press the Delete key. Then choose File > Save (or File > Export as PDF to keep the original as is).
  • Windows (print to PDF): open the PDF in Edge or Chrome, press Ctrl + P, choose Microsoft Print to PDF or Save as PDF, and set a custom page range that skips the unwanted pages, such as 1-3, 5-10. This makes a new PDF, but printing can drop links and fillable form fields.

Microsoft Word can open a PDF, but it converts it into an editable document, and the layout often shifts. For simply removing pages, the options above are cleaner.

Delete or extract: which is less work?

If you are removing a few pages, use delete PDF pages. If you want to keep only a few pages out of many, extract PDF pages is quicker: type the pages to keep instead. Both produce a new PDF and leave the original alone. See how to extract pages from a PDF for that route.

After deleting: check the size

Removing pages makes a PDF smaller, often a lot smaller for scans, since each page carries its own image. If the result is still over a portal's limit, compress it with a target size such as compress PDF to 200 KB.

Common mistakes

  • Using printed page numbers. The tool counts the PDF's own pages from 1. If the document has a cover or contents page before "page 1", the numbers will be offset. Check with the thumbnails in organize PDF.
  • Spaces instead of commas. Type 2, 5, 7, not 2 5 7.
  • Uploading the original. The edited file ends in -edited.pdf; rename it to something clear.
  • Deleting a page that was needed. Some portals want both sides of an ID or certificate. Read the upload instructions before you remove anything.
