Compress PNG

Smaller PNGs with transparency intact, using smart colour reduction.

PNG is lossless, so the usual quality slider does not apply. Instead this tool reduces the image to a palette of up to 256 well-chosen colours, the same technique TinyPNG uses. Screenshots, logos and illustrations often shrink by 60–80%.

Transparency is preserved. If you need an even smaller file and do not need transparency, convert to JPG or WebP instead.

How to use it

  1. Choose your image or drop it on the box (you can also paste from the clipboard).
  2. Adjust the settings if you need to. The tool compresses them straight away.
  3. Check the new size, then press Download.

Questions

Does it keep the transparent background?

Yes. Alpha transparency is kept in the compressed PNG.

Why is my photo PNG still large?

Photos have millions of colours and compress poorly as PNG. Use PNG to JPG or PNG to WebP for photos.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript, so your files never leave your device. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it keeps working.
