How to Extract Pages from a PDF (New PDF, Separate Files, JPG)

Pull selected pages out of a PDF into a new file, into separate PDFs, or as JPG images. Free, no upload, no Acrobat needed, on phone or PC.

To extract pages from a PDF, open extract PDF pages, choose your file, type the pages you want to keep (for example 1, 3-5, 9), and press Extract pages. You get a new PDF containing only those pages, while your original file stays exactly as it was. It runs in your browser on phone or laptop, and nothing is uploaded.

Extracting is what you need when a portal wants only your Class 12 marksheet from a 10-page scan, or when you want to send someone two pages of a long report instead of the whole thing.

Extract PDF pages and make a new PDF

  1. Open extract PDF pages and choose the PDF. The page count appears once it loads.
  2. Type the pages to keep in the box. Use commas between items and a dash for ranges:
    • 3 for a single page
    • 1, 4 for two separate pages
    • 2-6 for a run of pages
    • 8- for page 8 to the end
  3. Press Extract pages and download the new file, which ends in -extracted.pdf.

The pages are copied exactly, so text stays sharp and selectable and the file is usually much smaller than the original.

Bonus: reorder while you extract

Pages are placed in the order you type them. So 5, 1-4 puts page 5 first, followed by pages 1 to 4. That makes extraction a quick way to move a single page to the front without opening a full page organiser.

Extract PDF pages into separate files

The extract tool makes one new PDF. If you want each page (or each group of pages) as its own file, use split PDF instead:

  • Specific pages as separate files: choose Custom ranges and type 2, 5, 9. You get three single-page PDFs.
  • Groups as separate files: type 1-2, 3-8, 9. You get three PDFs: pages 1–2, pages 3–8, and page 9.
  • Every page separately: choose Every page as its own PDF.

When there are several results, a Download all (.zip) button saves them in one go. Our guide on splitting a PDF into multiple files covers the split options in detail.

Extract PDF pages as images

Some forms only accept JPG, or you may want a page as a picture for a presentation or WhatsApp. Use PDF to JPG:

  1. Choose your PDF.
  2. Type the pages you want in the Pages box (leave it empty for every page).
  3. Pick a Resolution: Standard (150 DPI) for screens and forms, Print (300 DPI) for printing, Screen (72 DPI) for the smallest files.
  4. Press Convert and download the images.

Each page becomes a separate image named with its page number. For diagrams or screenshots where perfectly sharp edges matter, PDF to PNG is the better choice. If the form also has a KB limit, run the JPG through compress image to 100 KB or the size you need.

Extract pages on a phone

All of these tools work in Chrome on Android and Safari on iPhone:

  • Save the PDF to Downloads or Files first if it came by WhatsApp or email.
  • Choose it from the tool's file picker.
  • Type the page numbers using the number keyboard; commas and dashes are on most phone keyboards' number layouts.
  • Download the result and rename it before uploading.

Extract pages from a PDF without Acrobat

In Adobe Acrobat, extracting pages lives in the Organize Pages tools, which are part of the paid Acrobat versions. You do not need it for this:

  • In the browser: the steps above, free and with no sign-up.
  • On a Mac with Preview: open the PDF, choose View > Thumbnails, select the pages (hold Command to pick several), and drag them to the desktop. Preview saves them as a new PDF.
  • On Windows: open the PDF in Edge or Chrome, press Ctrl + P, choose Microsoft Print to PDF or Save as PDF, set a custom page range, and save. This creates a new PDF of those pages, though printing can drop links and form fields.

Extract vs delete vs split: which one?

You want to Use
Keep a few pages, drop the rest extract PDF pages
Drop a few pages, keep the rest delete PDF pages
Turn one PDF into several files split PDF
Get pages as pictures PDF to JPG

When you want most of the document, deleting the unwanted pages is less typing than listing the ones to keep.

Is it safe for personal documents?

Marksheets, bank statements and ID scans often get split up before uploading. Our tools open the PDF and copy pages entirely inside your browser, so the file is never sent to a server. That also means it works the same on a slow connection, because nothing large has to travel over the network. Our guide on whether online PDF tools are safe explains what to look for in any tool.

Common mistakes

  • Typing page numbers from the printed footer. The tool uses the PDF's own page order, starting at 1 for the first page. If the document's printed numbering starts on a later page (after a cover or contents), the numbers will differ. Check the page count and count from the first page.
  • Spaces instead of commas. 1 3 5 is not understood; type 1, 3, 5.
  • Ranges past the end. A 12-page PDF has no page 13. Use 10- to mean "10 to the end".
  • Expecting smaller images inside the pages. Extracting copies pages as they are. If the result is still too large for a portal, compress it with compress PDF.
