Photo and signature spec
| File | Dimensions | File size | Format |

| Photo | 350 × 450 px | 10–200 KB | JPG |
| Signature | 350 × 150 px | 10–100 KB | JPG |
Other documents: Based on the 2026–27 cycles; NTA may change limits for 2028. Class 10 and category/PwD certificates as PDF, 50–300 KB.
JEE Main 2028 is still more than a year away, and NTA has announced nothing for it. If the pattern of recent years holds, the Session 1 form is expected around October–November 2027, with the exam in late January 2028. Session 2 is expected to follow in February (form) and April (exam). The upload rules have been stable: a 10–200 KB photo and a 10–100 KB signature, both JPG.
This page is for students now in Class 11 who want to know what to prepare and when to start watching for the form.
What you will probably need to upload
These are the limits from the 2026 cycle, which coverage of the 2027 form repeats. Treat them as a guide until the 2028 bulletin is out.
| File | Format | Size (recent cycles) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Photograph | JPG/JPEG | 10–200 KB | Recent colour photo, white background, face about 80% of the frame |
| Signature | JPG/JPEG | 10–100 KB | Black or blue ink on white paper |
| Class 10 certificate | 50–300 KB | Proof of date of birth | |
| Category / PwD certificate | 50–300 KB | Only if claimed |
Things worth doing a year early
Fix your documents. The name and date of birth on the form must match your Class 10 certificate. If there is a spelling difference with your Aadhaar, sort it out now, because correction windows are short.
Get certificates in time. OBC-NCL and EWS certificates are often expected to be issued within a set period before the form. Look up what the 2027 bulletin asked for, then plan to apply for a fresh certificate shortly before the 2028 form opens.
Keep a scanned set. Save your Class 10 marksheet as a PDF now. If you only have phone photos, combine them with JPG to PDF and reduce the file with compress PDF to 300 KB.
Preparing the photo and signature
Take the photo close to the form date, not a year early, because NTA asks for a recent one. When the time comes:
- Stand against a plain white wall in good light, facing the camera.
- Crop so your face takes up most of the frame.
- Resize it with the exam photo resizer.
- If it is still over 200 KB, use compress image to 100 KB.
For the signature, sign on white paper with a black or blue pen, crop tightly and keep the file comfortably over the minimum size.
Timeline notes
- Session 1 form: expected October–November 2027 (the 2026 form opened on 31 October 2025).
- Session 1 exam: expected late January 2028.
- Session 2 form: expected February 2028.
- Session 2 exam: expected April 2028.
NTA usually publishes a tentative exam calendar a few months ahead. For 2027, that calendar came out on 16 September 2026, so a 2028 calendar may appear around September 2027.
Planning around Session 1 and Session 2
Most students apply in Session 1 and decide about Session 2 after their result. In recent cycles, Session 1 candidates could log in again during the Session 2 window to opt in. Keep your application number, password and the exact photo file you used, so your details stay consistent across both sessions.
Common reasons uploads get rejected
- Selfies, filters, caps or sunglasses in the photo.
- Signatures in capital letters, or on lined or coloured paper.
- Files just over the size limit.
- A certificate PDF compressed so far that it is unreadable.
- Details on the form that do not match the Class 10 certificate.
Until NTA publishes the JEE Main 2028 notice, treat every date on this page as an estimate.
Questions
When will the JEE Main 2028 form be released?
Nothing is announced yet. Based on recent years, the Session 1 form is expected around October–November 2027 and Session 2 around February 2028.
Will the JEE Main 2028 photo size be the same as 2027?
Probably, since NTA has kept 10–200 KB for the photo and 10–100 KB for the signature in recent cycles, but this is not confirmed. Check the 2028 information bulletin.
I am in Class 11 now. What should I prepare for JEE Main 2028?
Make sure your Class 10 certificate details are correct, get a category certificate early if you need one, and keep a recent white-background photo. Everything else can wait for the bulletin.
