JEE Main 2027 photo (10–200 KB) and signature (10–100 KB) rules, the documents to keep ready and when the Session 1 and Session 2 forms are expected.
These are based on the previous cycle and public reports. The official notification can change anything here.
Expected timeline

Session 1 application form
The 2026 Session 1 form opened on 31 October 2025 and closed on 27 November 2025. As of mid-October 2026 NTA had not announced the 2027 date.
22–24 and 28–30 January 2027 (proposed)
Session 1 exam
NTA's tentative exam calendar released on 16 September 2026 lists these dates, with 31 January as a buffer day. NTA says the dates may change.
February 2027 (expected)
Session 2 application form
The 2026 Session 2 form ran from 1 to 25 February 2026, with a short re-opening on 12–13 March 2026.
First half of April 2027 (expected)
Session 2 exam
The 2026 Session 2 exam was held between 2 and 9 April 2026.
Photo and signature spec
| File | Dimensions | File size | Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Photo | 350 × 450 px | 10–200 KB | JPG |
| Signature | 350 × 150 px | 10–100 KB | JPG |
Other documents: NTA gives sizes in KB and cm (photo about 3.5 x 4.5 cm, signature about 3.5 x 1.5 cm), not pixels; the pixel preset is a safe default. Class 10 certificate and PwD certificate (if applicable) as PDF, 50–300 KB.
JEE Main 2027 needs only a few files: a recent photo, your signature, and PDFs of your Class 10 certificate and any category or PwD certificate. In 2026 the photo had to be 10–200 KB and the signature 10–100 KB, both in JPG. The Session 1 form is expected in late October or November 2026, so it is worth preparing these files now.
JEE Main is the national engineering entrance test run by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It is used for NIT, IIIT and other admissions, and its top scorers qualify for JEE Advanced. It is held in two sessions, and you can take one or both.
What you need to upload
These are the specs from the 2026 cycle. NTA usually keeps them the same, but check the 2027 information bulletin before you upload.
| File | Format | Size | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Photograph | JPG/JPEG | 10–200 KB | Recent colour photo, white background, face about 80% of the frame, ears visible, about 3.5 x 4.5 cm |
| Signature | JPG/JPEG | 10–100 KB | Black or blue ink on white paper, about 3.5 x 1.5 cm |
| Class 10 certificate | 50–300 KB | Used for date of birth | |
| Category / PwD certificate | 50–300 KB | Only if you claim it |
NTA states these limits in KB and centimetres, not pixels. A photo around 350 x 450 pixels and a signature around 350 x 150 pixels fit comfortably.
How to prepare each file
Photo. Use a photo taken against a plain white wall in daylight. Crop it so your face fills most of the frame, then set the size with the exam photo resizer. If the file is still over the limit, use compress image to 100 KB, which keeps a passport-style photo sharp and well inside 200 KB.
Signature. Sign on plain white paper with a black or blue pen. Photograph it in good light, crop away the empty paper and save it as JPG. Keep it well above 10 KB: a tiny, blurry signature is a common reason for being asked to re-upload.
Certificates. If you have a photo of your marksheet, turn it into a PDF with JPG to PDF. Then bring it under 300 KB with compress PDF to 300 KB. Check that the text and your date of birth are still readable after compressing.
Timeline notes
- Session 1 form: expected late October to November 2026. In the 2026 cycle it opened on 31 October 2025 and closed on 27 November 2025.
- Session 1 exam: NTA's tentative calendar (16 September 2026) proposes 22–24 and 28–30 January 2027.
- Session 2 form: expected in February 2027, based on the 1–25 February 2026 window.
- Session 2 exam: expected in early April 2027, based on 2–9 April 2026.
None of these 2027 dates are final until NTA publishes the notice on jeemain.nta.nic.in. Coaching sites sometimes post "confirmed" dates early, so rely on the official notice.
Common reasons uploads get rejected
- A selfie or a photo with a cap, sunglasses or a busy background.
- An old photo: NTA asks for a recent one, and it should match how you look on exam day.
- A signature written in capital letters, or one with your name typed under it.
- A file just over the limit, for example 205 KB. Aim for a little under the maximum.
- A certificate PDF that is so compressed that it cannot be read.
- Your name or date of birth on the form not matching your Class 10 certificate.
Keep the same photo file safe after you apply. You will be asked to bring a matching printed photo on exam day, and the same file is useful for Session 2 and for JoSAA counselling later.
Questions
What is the photo size for JEE Main 2027?
In the 2026 cycle NTA asked for a recent colour photo in JPG/JPEG, 10 KB to 200 KB, with a white background and about 80% of the face visible. Expect the same for 2027, but confirm in the 2027 information bulletin.
What is the JEE Main signature size?
The 2026 rules asked for a JPG/JPEG signature between 10 KB and 100 KB, signed in black or blue ink on white paper. Some older guides say 4–30 KB, so follow the 2027 bulletin if it differs.
When will the JEE Main 2027 form come out?
The Session 1 form is expected in late October or November 2026, because the 2026 form opened on 31 October 2025. Only the date NTA announces on jeemain.nta.nic.in is final.
Do I need to fill the form again for Session 2?
In past cycles candidates who applied in Session 1 could log in and opt for Session 2 during the Session 2 window without making a new account. New candidates could register fresh at that time.
