CLAT 2028 is expected in the first half of December 2027, with registration from about early August to late October 2027. That follows CLAT 2027, which opened on 3 August 2026, closes on 31 October 2026 and is held on 6 December 2026. Uploads are simple: a photo, a signature and PDFs of any category, PwD or domicile certificates.
CLAT is named for the admission year, so CLAT 2028 is for students joining a five-year law course in 2028. Most of them will be in Class 12 during 2027-28.

What to do before August 2027
Domicile and category certificates. Many NLUs reserve seats for students from their state. If you may claim a domicile or category quota, apply for the certificate early in 2027. These can take weeks to arrive.
Names and dates. Make sure your name and date of birth match across your Class 10 certificate, Aadhaar and any category certificate.
NLU list. Shortlist the NLUs you want and learn their state quotas. You fill your preferences in the form.
Preparing the files
- Take a recent passport-style photo on white and size it with the exam photo resizer.
- Bring it to 30–45 KB with compress image to 50 KB.
- Sign in black ink on white paper, crop it and use compress image to 20 KB.
- Scan certificates and keep them clear but small with compress PDF to 1 MB.
Timeline notes
- Exam date announcement: expected around July 2027 (22 July in 2026).
- Registration: expected early August to late October 2027.
- Admit card: expected about two weeks before the exam.
- Exam: expected first half of December 2027, offline.

Applying from a phone
Most CLAT applicants fill the form on a phone, and that works if you prepare the files first.
- Take the photo with the rear camera, not the selfie camera, with someone else holding the phone at eye level.
- Photograph your signature in daylight with the paper flat on a table, then crop away the table edges.
- Save the final files with simple names such as photo.jpg and signature.jpg, so you pick the right one in the upload box.
- Check each file's size in your phone's file manager before you upload. If it shows over the limit, compress it again rather than retrying the upload.
- Keep your certificate PDFs in one folder so you are not searching your gallery while the session times out.
After you submit, download the confirmation page and payment receipt and keep them until admission is final. You will need your login again for the admit card, answer key objections and counselling.
Common mistakes
- Waiting for a last-minute extension that never comes.
- Using a domicile certificate from the wrong state, or one with a different name spelling.
- A photo with a coloured background or a selfie.
- A signature in capital letters.

When is CLAT 2028?
Not announced. CLAT 2027 is on 6 December 2026, so CLAT 2028 is expected in the first half of December 2027.

Can Class 11 students apply for CLAT 2028?
