PNG is great for quality but heavy for the web. AVIF supports transparency like PNG, and a lossy AVIF is often a fraction of the PNG's size, which makes it ideal for product cut-outs, illustrations and hero images.
Choose 100% quality for a lossless AVIF, or lower it for much smaller files. Every current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari displays AVIF, but plenty of older phones, desktop photo viewers, editing apps and upload forms still do not accept it.
How to use it
- Choose one or more PNG files.
- They convert to AVIF automatically. Adjust the quality if you like.
- Download each file, or all of them as a ZIP.
Questions
Does AVIF keep transparency?
Yes. Transparent and semi-transparent areas are preserved.
Should I use AVIF for logos and screenshots?
Lossy AVIF can blur sharp text and thin lines. For those, use a high quality (85% or more), lossless 100%, or keep the PNG.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript, so your files never leave your device. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it keeps working.
Is it free?
Yes, free with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.
