IBPS & SBI Photo, Signature, Thumb & Declaration Size Guide
IBPS and SBI upload sizes for photo, signature, left thumb impression and handwritten declaration, with the declaration rules that cause most rejections.
For IBPS (PO, Clerk, SO, RRB) and SBI (PO, Clerk) forms, recent notices ask for four uploads: a photo of 20–50 KB (200 x 230 px), a signature of 10–20 KB (140 x 60 px), a left thumb impression of 20–50 KB (240 x 240 px) and a handwritten declaration of 50–100 KB (800 x 400 px). All are JPG/JPEG. These values have been consistent across recent cycles, but confirm them in the notification for your exam before uploading.
The four uploads at a glance
| Item | Pixels (preferred) | File size | Format | Key rule |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photograph | 200 x 230 px | 20–50 KB | JPG/JPEG | Recent colour passport-style photo, light background |
| Signature | 140 x 60 px | 10–20 KB | JPG/JPEG | Black ink on white paper, not in capital letters |
| Left thumb impression | 240 x 240 px (200 DPI) | 20–50 KB | JPG/JPEG | Black or blue ink on white paper |
| Handwritten declaration | 800 x 400 px (200 DPI) | 50–100 KB | JPG/JPEG | Own handwriting, English, black ink, not in capitals |
Some guides list a slightly different value here or there, and older notices used different pixel sizes. The KB ranges above are the ones that appear most often in recent IBPS and SBI notifications.
Preparing the photograph
Use a recent colour photo on a plain white or light background, with the face filling most of the frame and no cap or dark glasses. Crop it to portrait, then resize to 200 x 230 px and compress to around 30–40 KB. The IBPS photo resizer does this in one go and works for SBI forms too, since the specs match.
Bank portals also capture a live photo at some stages (for example at the exam centre or during the form, depending on the notice), and it is compared with your uploaded photo. Keep your look broadly similar on exam day: glasses, beard and hairstyle make a difference.
Preparing the signature
- Sign on white paper with a black ink pen, in your usual running style.
- Photograph or scan it in good light, flat and straight.
- Crop tightly, then use the IBPS signature resizer to get 140 x 60 px and 10–20 KB.
Bank notices say signatures in capital letters will not be accepted, and that the signature you upload must match the one you make at the exam and at joining.
Preparing the left thumb impression
Press your left thumb on a stamp pad with blue or black ink, then press it firmly on white paper without smudging. Do it two or three times and pick the clearest one. Photograph it close up in daylight, crop to a square around the print, and use the IBPS thumb impression resizer for 240 x 240 px and 20–50 KB.
A smudged blob is a common reason for rejection. The ridges should be visible.
Preparing the handwritten declaration
This is where most applicants slip up.
- Copy the exact text from your notification. The wording is printed in the notice. Do not use a version from a coaching website; the text has changed between exams.
- Write it yourself, in English, in your normal handwriting. Not in capital letters, and not typed.
- Use black ink on plain white paper.
- Write your name where the text asks for it, if it does.
- Photograph it flat, crop to the text, then resize to 800 x 400 px and compress to 50–100 KB. Use resize image for the pixels and compress image to 100 KB for the size, aiming for about 70–80 KB.
If the result looks grey or dim, a quick pass through black and white image improves contrast and usually reduces the file size. All of these tools work in your browser without uploading the images, which is reassuring for documents that carry your signature and thumbprint.
Scanner settings, if you use a scanner
Notices often suggest scanning at 200 DPI and adjusting colour depth if the file comes out too large. In practice, a phone photo cropped and resized to the pixel size above works just as well and is easier.
Photographing documents with a phone
Most applicants do not have a scanner, and that is fine. A few habits make phone captures look like scans:
- Place the paper on a dark, flat surface so the edges stand out.
- Shoot in daylight near a window, but not in direct sun, which causes glare on ink.
- Hold the phone directly above the paper, parallel to it, to avoid a trapezium shape.
- Turn off the flash; it creates a bright spot in the middle.
- Tap to focus on the writing before taking the photo.
Then crop away everything except the item itself. Cropping removes the most wasted pixels and makes hitting the KB target much easier.
Common rejection reasons
- Declaration written in capital letters, typed, or in someone else's handwriting.
- Declaration text not matching the notice.
- Signature in capitals, or different from the one you sign at the centre.
- Thumb impression smudged or too faint.
- Photo with a dark or patterned background, cap or sunglasses.
- Any file outside its KB range, including files that are too small.
- Uploading the wrong image in the wrong box. Name your files clearly, such as
photo.jpg,sign.jpg,thumb.jpg,declaration.jpg.
A final check
Before you pay the fee and submit, open each preview in the form. Bank recruitments often say that applications with unclear or wrong uploads may be rejected, and correction windows are limited. A clean set of four files takes about ten minutes to prepare and you can reuse it across IBPS and SBI exams in the same year, as long as the notices keep the same specs.
Questions
What is the size of the handwritten declaration for IBPS and SBI?
Recent IBPS and SBI notices, as reproduced by most guides, ask for 800 x 400 pixels at 200 DPI, JPG/JPEG, 50 KB to 100 KB. Copy the exact declaration text from your notification.
Can I write the handwritten declaration in capital letters?
No. Bank notices say the declaration must be in the candidate's own handwriting in English and not in capital letters. Capitalised declarations are commonly listed as a rejection reason.
Can I use my right thumb if I cannot give the left thumb impression?
Some notices have allowed the right thumb when the left is unavailable, but guides disagree. Follow the wording in your notification, and if it is silent, contact the helpdesk listed there.
Are the IBPS and SBI upload sizes the same?
In recent cycles they have matched: photo 20–50 KB, signature 10–20 KB, left thumb 20–50 KB and declaration 50–100 KB. They are separate bodies, though, so confirm in each notice.
