Images saved from websites and some Android phones are increasingly AVIF. Every current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari displays AVIF, but plenty of older phones, desktop photo viewers, editing apps and upload forms still do not accept it. Converting to JPG fixes that.
The browser's own decoder is used when available, with a WebAssembly decoder as a fallback, so it also works on older browsers. Transparent areas become white.
How to use it
- Choose one or more AVIF files.
- They convert to JPG automatically. Adjust the quality if you like.
- Download each file, or all of them as a ZIP.
Questions
Why won't my AVIF photo upload?
Many forms only accept JPG or PNG. Convert it to JPG here and upload that.
Will I lose quality?
A JPG at the default 92% looks the same as the AVIF on screen, though the file will usually be larger.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript, so your files never leave your device. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it keeps working.
Is it free?
Yes, free with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.
